Semantic caching catches queries that are worded differently but mean the same thing and returns a previous answer instead of making a fresh model call.

Both depend on the shape of your traffic. A support bot that answers the same few dozen questions in different phrasing benefits from semantic caching. A retrieval pipeline that sends the same long document with every query benefits from prompt caching. 3. Right-size the model to the task

Right-sizing means identifying workloads that are running on a more capable, more expensive model than the task requires. The responsible version of this is not a blind downgrade. It is a measured one. 4. Move asynchronous work to batch endpoints

Nearly every major provider offers a batch endpoint at a steep discount in exchange for an asynchronous response window. Workloads that do not need a sub-second answer are obvious candidates: evaluation runs, enrichment jobs, classification at scale, and overnight report generation. Many teams never turn batching on because the default API is synchronous, not because their work requires it.

The discount is meaningful, often twenty five to fifty percent below the live rate. The constraint is latency tolerance and idempotency. Batch jobs are not a drop-in replacement for real-time traffic, but they are a near-free saving for any workload that can wait.

5. Buy the same model from a cheaper host

This is the lowest-risk move on the list because nothing about the model changes. The same open-weights model served by different hosts, or a frontier model available both first-party and through a hyperscaler, can differ meaningfully in price while producing the same outputs. The saving is procurement, not architecture.

The work is comparing total cost, not headline rate. A host with a lower input price and a higher output price can be more expensive if your workload is output-heavy.
